SOMETHING BETTER – 5
You know my sense that the popular model of “church” will not enable us to survive and thrive in the Day to come. A Day that isn’t far off. You also know that I believe that there is a better way.
I’m doing an online course on Simple/House Church with Roger Thoman, and here’s some discussion points derived from last night’s Zoom meeting. Try to feel the heartbeat of this model of Church.
IT’S ABOUT – –
– It’s about being God’s people 24/7 – not a series of events to attend.
– It’s about being His Temple – not building holy places to gather in.
– It’s about a Jesus-Lifestyle – not functioning as an institution.
– It’s about incarnating God into the world – not attracting people to our clubhouse.
– It’s about a participatory gathering – rather than being priest-led.
– It’s about discipling by relationship – not by program.
– It’s about rediscovering the adventure of following Jesus – not just living in our religious, culturally-comfortable boxes.
– It’s about releasing and empowering – rather than controlling.
– It’s about community – rather than just meetings.
– It’s about gathering anywhere, anytime – rather than special, holy times.
– It’s about finances spent on needs and ministry – rather than buildings and programs.
– It’s about “easy-to-reproduce” – rather than complicated and cumbersome.
Doesn’t this seem more like the New Testament church than what most of us experience now?
