25-8, “For Better or For Worse”

Wow, that was quite an inauguration speech! Impressive. Full of vision, hope and promises. My president should never be accused of being bashful! I cheered and teared and clapped more than once even if sitting alone.

MOVING ON
God has always wanted a people who were HIS people amongst all the peoples. Those who represented His heart and His purposes in the world. Those who bring the Light of His Gospel agenda into the darkness caused by the enemy of God and of all who serve Him.

We who profess to follow Christ are missional people. We are not our own. We have a purpose that is bigger than us and bigger than being an American. We are bondslaves whose Master requires unwavering loyalty and service, but we resist that.

So now we watch and wait and hope and pray. We don’t know how much of President Trump’s ambitious agenda will be fulfilled or how long he will have to work at it. But this we can know.

We can know that this can be a “Golden Age” for the Church. We are in the Last Days and will have unique challenges and opportunities regardless of whether our president gets to fulfill every one of his promises, or none of them. If “for better,” we will be tempted to drop our guard regarding the serious Day we live in, and if “for worse” we’ll certainly suffer. Either will challenge our vow to Jesus in godly living and mission while simultaneously presenting opportunity for us to do so at a higher level.

Regardless, “Today” is the Day for us to rededicate ourselves to serving God and His purposes. That is our identity and it is what we are to be about, even as excited Americans. Or maybe especially because we are.
