Church, the Father’s hand is all over the national and global, natural, social and political events and technological advancements of our Day, but many Christians are clueless because their spiritual eyes are closed.
Do you remember that just before Jesus gave the promise of the Holy Spirit and then ascended into heaven, the disciples asked Him if now was the time that He would restore the Kingdom to Israel? (Acts 1: 6 )
Incredible! Even after forty days of intense instruction about the Kingdom of God, accompanied by many “convincing proofs” of its spirit nature, the disciples were still captured by an earthly, politically-based definition of God’s Kingdom. It’s the Matthew 13:14-15 syndrome that Jesus spoke of.
A MESSIANIC FIGURE?
Is it possible that because of our Americanized, earthly version of the Kingdom of God, many socially and politically conservative Christians are being tricked into viewing President Trump as our deliverer from the Woke Left in the way that the Jews and even the disciples hoped Jesus would deliver them from the Romans? Has he become a Messianic figure of sorts?
Further, does the act of setting ones’ eyes on President Trump, handicap our seeing the Father at work in our Day? And will it turn us away from looking to Him for help in the soon-coming Day of need? I believe that would be “Yes” and “Yes.”
CONCLUSION
Our eyes will be closed to seeing God’s hand in our Day, as long as we continue to seek our security and fulfillment in the world instead of finding a Kingdom identity and life by humbly obeying the strong words of Jesus. Words that lead to Abundant Life, present and eternal – earthly politics notwithstanding – but which include “the cross,” “repent,” “love your enemy” and so on.
We are in a Day of preparation for coming difficulties, but many who claim to follow Christ cannot see it and will pay a terrible price for their blindness.
