Saturday morning I went down to the basement and saw water flowing out of the top of the hot water heater. This was BAD!
BUT WAIT. It hadn’t even covered the entire floor yet. I had sooo much to be thankful for – – I mean, what if – -? “Deal with it.”
But that meant no showers for Sunday; no dishwasher, which was about full; and a laundry basket of dirty cloths. Life can be horrible.
BUT WAIT. Could this be a wake-up call re things to come? Could surviving without a hot water heater be good for us? It was.
And then – I had to write a painful letter to some church officials to bring closure to our involvement there. You might understand that their and my views of “Today” and of the Church don’t always mesh well. I wrote it, sent it off, and wondered what God has for us next. Maybe, though, I AM too expressive to be useful. Or – – maybe there’s a price to pay for following Jesus Today.
BUT WAIT. What’s that letter in today’s mail? Turns out it was from a missionary who wrote to thank us for impacting so many through our local efforts to promote missions. Why did she write that letter when she did? God cares, and His timing is impeccable!
And then – that evening, feeling a bit isolated, Elaine and I listened to some music, with the lyrics, on YouTube. We started with Lauren Daigle’s “You Say” – – which we played over and over. It led into a long series, and song after song was written for us. We sang, worshipped, and wiped tears as God confirmed His love for us and our usefulness to Him. He is good.
Sunday morning at home was feeling awkward. And lonely. Where is our Hebrews 10:24-25 Church now?
BUT WAIT. The Spirit moved me to text a friend, who invited us to join an evening of fellowship, Bible Study, prayer and food with other seekers of the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. He was there too! He is calling many, to go deeper with Him in this Day.
Actually, it was a wonderful weekend. And then – Monday afternoon our hot water heater was replaced. All is well!
