What does it take to bring one to the place where nothing matters more than knowing Jesus?
I’m wondering what matters to our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan who are being hunted down today because of their faith. They must abandon everything to save their life, and then many must give up their life in order to remain faithful to Christ and fellow believers.
AND THEN THERE’S US
What is happening inside of you as many things that we have held dear, are no longer assured for the future? Even the near future. Are you letting go or grabbing for more? Turning toward God or questioning Him?
Will we wait until the loss occurs, or do we have enough warning today to start to reconsider what is really important? I’m thinking of the loss of anything or everything earthly that we consider “mine” including health, wealth, relationships and freedoms.
If we were proactive, we would become more like what Jesus always expected us to be. We would be better prepared for the coming losses and would have a newfound freedom and joy in Christ in the meantime.
TODAY?
As of today, you can still convert some of your Mt. 6:19-21 forbidden, laid up treasure, into resources to proclaim the Gospel to the lost, but many Christians will cling to it like it is Life itself and will serve the mammon (wealth that is trusted) of Mt. 6:24 until personal, national or world events take it from them.
We don’t have to wait. We can break its power over us by choosing to surrender to Lord Jesus as we join Paul in: “But whatever things were gain to me, these things I have counted as loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, – -” Philip. 3:7-9a nasb
